Hong Kong Day 4

Hong Kong Day 4

Today we did something very religious and traditional....villains hitting! Beware, all villains!

We took MTR to Causeway Bay station. Monday, 3pm, the train is fully packed. So far I've never been in a nearly empty one like we do at Marina Bay or Pasir Ris. Don't expect to have a seat because other people will snatch it faster than you. They are trained.

At Causeway Bay, we walked to the an infamous cross road under a highway where this spot has the fiercest energy. The villains hitting process is believed to be more effective there. There are also fire station and bus interchange nearby so it was really noisy..4 aunties were waving at us to do business with them.

She was the chosen one..my mom said she looks really experience. You see her invisible hand...decades of experience. She hit the villains paper into flying pieces in just 10 secs! It's a visual confidence.

After the process, I brought my mom to the wet market just around the corner to show her really fresh seafood.

Suddenly it started to pour, we passed by this shop that cooks roasted pigeon! Must try!
The interior of the shop. Not very clean but no choice, it's pouring...the lean man happened to pop in when my shutter clicked.

Washing routine. The basin and tea were given to help yourself.

Roasted pigeons at HK$55 (SGD 9) each! Very nice and crispy, tasted like soft duck meat and it won't stuck in between your teeth.

Salt and pepper fried toufu and chicken soft bone. Funky dish and too much for us.
Ding ding bus that still retained the 50s' look. Stephanie Sun and her baby were on the bus advertisement selling baby milk powder. Had a mixed feeling when I saw it.

Passed by this milk company right after seeing Stephanie Sun's advertisement and we went straight it..it's a must have too!

We ordered the lotus seed steamed milk and another steamed egg. I super love this steamed milk because it reminded me of my grandmother. When I was 4 or 5 and my parents were busy selling soup, I felt neglected and always called my grandmother to make milk in a bottle for me. She traveled all the way from Redhill to my house just to make me milk every time without fail. This steamed milk really tasted like the milk she made.

 Steamed egg.

Then we proceeded to temple street at Jordan. Almost the entire night market was gone compared to 2 years ago. Life is really tough.

The first cat I saw in HK. It has the same attitude as the citizens.

Finally we rested our legs at Cafe de Coral. It has a local food in "fast food" way.

My mom had her usual favourite, ice cream with red bean and milk, while I tried a sprite with jelly. My mom's one was a better choice.

Oh ya, forgot to mention, you can also eat in your comfort there, including with your leg up.

Time to go home and rest...I think my mom will rest in hotel a lot more tomorrow because we are planning to meet the big buddha soon!

Hong Kong Day 3

Hong Kong Day 3

This morning was a good sunny day. When I was checking emails, I came across this HK ad on the TV by their government which surprised me. The government actually encourages them not to waste food! How to waste food here? I shall let the following pictures speak for themselves...

 My favourite custard bun.

My mom decided to walk "one round" to digest the wonderful dim sum we had but ended up wandering to somewhere I can see the mountains! So we took a cab back to our hotel to put down all the things she had bought and took a nap until the sun went down.

We proceeded to Mongkok for dinner and shopping..

Yes, eat and shop, eat and shop...

It's a good stinky toufu when you can smell it from 2 blocks away.

Bought this for supper from along the same street with the stinky toufu.

We rested our legs at Shu Liu San and had some nice desserts and curry.

And finally we ended up at Ladies Market! The business was really bad...I only bought some pajamas..

Dinner time, we went into this very homely cafe that has porridge and glutinous rice..

And then we continued to shop......

I understand now how HK gals can be so slim!! You have to walk really far and fast to reach one place, eat a quarter of many things so that you won't miss any, and then continue to walk far and fast! Now the government ad makes sense...

Hope everyone will have a peaceful smooth Monday at work...

Hong Kong Day 2

Hong Kong Day 2

This morning there was still a slight drizzle so we decided to stay in hotel until the drizzle had stopped. We had a typical breakfast that a local will have at the HK cafe: noodles with luncheon meat, egg and veg. Not forgetting their milk tea..
I found this innovative drawer right under our table! All our utensils are inside, can save both waiters' and customers' time. Clean and hazard-free.

Then we proceeded to get the MTR. Today we wanted to go to Tsim Sha Tsui (尖沙咀)for sightseeing and shopping..
I find the mosaic they used on the pillars are very vintage. It looks almost the same for every station (except Disneyland station), unlike Singapore's.

After some shopping at iSQUARE shopping mall, we wandered to Kowloon Park, where they have the Avenue of Comic Stars, public swimming pool, bush maze and many activities happen there. There were so many people there on a Saturday.

Then we landed at the Park Lane Shoppers' Boulevard. Bought nothing...

And finally we reached the Victoria Harbour! Heard the mobile softee van's musical box sound ringing and I ran for it. HK$9 (about SGD1.50) each.

Then we strolled down the harbour licking the ice cream, enjoying the sea breeze. But I hate the crowd.

The famous pirate (张保仔) ship. You can take the ship and cruise around at HK$190 (SGD31).

This year is the 40th anniversary of Bruce Lee's death. TV showing memoirs and interviews about him too..you see the flowers underneath his statue! They had a ceremony this afternoon for everyone to remember him once again.

Avenue of Stars: I chose Shek Kin, the villain and enemy of old time Wong Fei Hong back in the 40s. He acted with Bruce Lee before too. Love it when he pissed heroes off.

After strolling the harbour, we looked for food again and found a cafe with roasted meat. It's really hard to find a cafe at Tsim Sha Tsui already compared to 3 years ago..but you will never starve walking around HK.

Just a ringer, normally locals use the tea given to rinse the utensils. You may still drink it if you like but I will get myself an ice lemon tea instead.

How can I miss the roasted pork and chicken right?

Fried egg with shrimps.

Finally, time to pack a hot dessert and go back to rest because we were carrying too many things. I bought many hair treatment cream as they are sooooooo much cheaper here and they have VO5 hair treatment oil here which Singapore does not have it anymore...

My mom planned to rest for a day in the hotel tomorrow as it is Sunday and will be crowded going everywhere..so maybe I will update again on Monday night. Unless there is anything interesting enough tomorrow..hehe...

Have a good Sunday!
